From Inconsistent Workouts to Strength & Confidence: Bryan’s BMF Training Story

At BMF Training, we love celebrating the real stories of our members. Today we’re highlighting Bryan C.—a 45-year-old husband, father of three, CFO/COO, and surfer—who transformed his confidence, strength, and consistency through our program.

Life Before BMF Training

Bryan shared:

“My biggest challenge with working out was consistency. I would get motivated and get to the gym for a couple of weeks, but with no one to work out with or hold me accountable, it was easy to lose momentum. Another issue was confidence in the gym. As a 6'4”, 255-pound guy, I was embarrassed to ask for a spotter when I went past 155 pounds on the bench press. I felt that a guy my size would look silly asking for help when the weight I was lifting was pretty sad.”

After some holiday weight gain in late 2024, Bryan decided it was time for change.

“I felt I was setting a poor example for my sons. I always saw BMF Training when I took my kids to school, and after looking up what BMF offered, it seemed like an obvious choice to reach out.”

First Impressions

From the very beginning, Bryan knew he had made the right choice:

“My initial phone call with Mike was great. He made it easy to discuss my goals and what they offered. When I went to the gym for my first workout, I could tell Mike was going to be a great trainer and would tailor my workouts to my goals.”

Training & Nutrition

Bryan now does personal training with Mike three times per week and joins conditioning classes at least once a week.

“The training I do with Mike is focused mainly on weight training and mobility. These are two areas that I’ve struggled with in my personal workout journey prior to joining BMF.”

He also joined a nutrition challenge in his first month:

“It was extremely helpful because I figured out I was not eating nearly enough protein. From the workouts and the diet changes, my clothes have fit much better since I started in early January.”

The Results

The progress Bryan has made is inspiring:

“For strength gains, I went from not being able to do 1 pull-up (or chin-up) to doing sets of up to 6 reps with weights around me. I went from barely doing 185 on the bench press to just around 250 pounds—which is the equivalent of benching my body weight. I’ve never been able to do that in my life and now I can at the age of 45. My confidence in my body and athletic performance has skyrocketed.”

It hasn’t just been strength in the gym:

“My clothes fit better, I’m getting a lot of compliments, and I think my wife has never been more attracted to me! My surfing strength and stamina have greatly improved—I can stay out in the water longer and handle larger waves and currents.”

Life Outside the Gym

The benefits of training have carried over into Bryan’s family and work life:

“I’ve been more confident and energized at work. I have a desk job and there would be days where I only got 3,000 steps and very little exercise. Now, getting those early morning workouts in changes my mindset at work. My boys are also impressed with what I do at the gym and are emulating the things they see me do. They seem more interested in physical fitness because of the example I’ve been setting.”

Proudest Moments

“My proudest moment has been bench pressing my weight and finally doing pull-ups. Being able to do these at 45, after never being able to do either before, shows that it’s never too late.”

Looking Ahead

Bryan’s future goals are simple:

“To continue to stay consistent, to continue losing body fat, and to maintain (or gain) muscle mass. I love doing this and I don’t want to get complacent or find reasons to get in the way.”
